Leipzig is a member of the European Coalition of Cities against Racism
After the signing of a Letter of Intent by Mayor Burkhard Jung on 14 March 2007, the Council Assembly approved the City of Leipzig's membership of the European Coalition of Cities against Racism and of the association of the same name on 17 June 2009.

This alliance of cities is the result of a UNESCO initiative and currently unites 104 cities from 22 countries in a commitment to combat discrimination and racism.
By joining the Coalition of Cities, Leipzig also accepted its 10-point action plan, which is implemented under the management of the Department of Migration and Integration.
