The outstanding music sites are authentic locations for the life and work of world-famous composers, whose works are an essential part of European music history. They keep alive the memories of composers like Johann Sebastian Bach, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Clara and Robert Schumann, Richard Wagner and Edvard Grieg.
An image video shows the current vibrancy of Leipzig, the city of music. Mayor Burkhard Jung invites all (European) guests to Leipzig in the video.
Leipzig as a vibrant city of culture
Leipzig's First Mayor Torsten Bonew: "I'm delighted to receive the European Heritage Label from the European Commission for the city of Leipzig. It recognises Leipzig as an outstanding city of music and will further strengthen its international profile. Leipzig's musical heritage sites and the composers associated with them are a reaffirmation of European ideals. Values such as freedom, tolerance and critical reflection are evoked time and again and lived anew."
The European Commission presented the European Heritage Label to a total of nine European sites in Bulgaria's second largest city. They all symbolise European history and European values in a special way. These include the "Maastricht Treaty" (Netherlands) and "Schengen" (Luxembourg).
