Residence permit for the Working Holiday or Youth Mobility programme
General information
In the context of a Working Holiday stay (or also: Work & Travel), you are able to spend your holiday in Germany and finance your stay through casual employment. The programmes Working Holiday and Youth Mobility (Canada) are intended to give young people aged between 18 and 30 years (35 years in Canada) the possibility to gain an insight into the culture and everyday life of another country. Working Holiday stays can usually only be approved once and for a stay of up to 12 months maximum.

Documents/ forms to be submitted
You can submit this application completely online. If you are not able to use the online application, please use the "Residence permit application/Application for renewal of a temporary residence permit" (PDF 227 KB) and submit the documents by mail.
- Valid passport (copy)
- Entry visa, if available (copy)
- Written declaration (informal) that you will not be accompanied by family members who are liable for maintenance
- Proof of sufficient financial resources - bank statement or letter of obligation (copy)
- Proof of comprehensive accident and health insurance including treatment in hospital and return transport in the case of illness or death (copy)
- Current (sub-)rental contract (copy)
Deadlines/ processing time
After the documents have been submitted in full, the processing is usually complete within four weeks. Deviations from this are possible in individual cases.
Process and procedure
Please submit your application and related documents via online application. You will be invited to collect your biometric data after a decision has been made on your application. After the decision about your application, you will be invited to have your biometric data recorded.
Costs and fees
93 euros to 113 euros
Japanese nationals are exempt from the processing fee.
