Residence permit for people with tolerated status in cases of long-term integration
General information
For this residence permit you need to fulfil the following conditions, among others:
- long-term integration into everyday life and society in the Federal Republic of Germany
- six years of tolerated, permitted or authorised residence in Germany (the time is shortened to four years if you are living with underage children in one household)
- you have tolerated status
It is not possible to issue a residence permit if the tolerated status has been issued on the grounds of false information about identity.

Documents/ forms to be submitted
- Application form (see below)
- Acknowledgement regarding the free democratic constitution of the Federal Republic of Germany (see below)
- Passport (copy)
- Proof of having secured most living costs (for example, work contract with three current pay slips) (copy)
- German A2 certificate from a certified language course provider (Goethe-Institute, TestDaF-Institute, telc GmbH (DVV), ÖSD) (copy)
- Current school attendance certificates of any children (copy)
- Rental contract (copy)
Process and procedure
Please submit your application and the relevant documents by post. After the decision about your application, you will be invited to have your biometric data recorded.
Costs and fees
Issue:
- Adults: 100 euros
- Minors: 50 euros
Extension:
- Adults: 93 euros
- Minors: 46.50 euros
If you receive benefits from the Jobcenter (unemployment benefit II) or the Social Office (social assistance according to the social security act XII), you may not need to pay the fees. You need to submit your current benefits letter (Leistungsbescheid) for this.
