'Stasi' memorial plaque
A memorial plaque marking the former headquarters of the Stasi (state security police) in Leipzig.
Along with the inscription “The District Administration of State Security Leipzig was located here from 1950-1989. Citizens occupied the rooms during the demonstration of 4 December, 1989” a reproduction of the original plaque marking the Stasi HQ in Leipzig commemorates the location from which the state security police presided over the fate of the city and its people for nearly 40 years.
The plaque also honours the peaceful occupation of the building as a significant action by the citizens of Leipzig on their way to restoring democracy in their country. The plaque was created by Leipzig artist Matthias Klemm.
