Leipzig startup initiatives
Overview of additional Leipzig startup initiatives such as SMILE – the University Startup Network, SpinLab (a startup network cofounded by the HHL), Basislager Coworking (‘working in a creative location’), Tapetenwerk Leipzig (a thriving art zone), and Social Impact Lab Leipzig (turning socially innovative ideas into social enterprises).
SMILE – the University Startup Network
SMILE supports students, graduates and research assistants from any university working in any field who want to set themselves up in business. It offers a range of event formats, advice and individual coaching.
SpinLab is an incubator co-founded and co-funded by HHL Graduate School of Management. The support programme is aimed at innovative tech startups. Company establishment, market entry and financing are tackled jointly. ‘Spinlab – The HHL Accelerator’ offers a six-month programme in which participants can use modern coworking offices and access various technologies provided by SpinLab’s partners.
The ‘Coworking Basecamp’ offers founders and startup teams a creative workspace and a collaborative working environment. It contains a series of event rooms which are ideal for team meetings, workshops and conferences.
This repurposed wallpaper factory is now used for a variety of thriving functions including art galleries, workshops, studios, offices, cafés and even residential development.
Social Impact Lab Leipzig
Two different funding programmes are used to help entrepreneurs in the startup and foundation phases, including with the use of co-working space. The Social Startups Programme gives business founders an opportunity to transform socially innovative ideas into social enterprises.
