Implementation and Further Development
The implementation of the Urban Development Concept continues to follow the basic principle of the Leipzig Charter. This means pursuing an urban development strategy that is both interdisciplinary in design and citizen-oriented and serves as the basis for municipal action. To this end, interdisciplinary and multi-stakeholder work programmes are increasingly being developed. In this context, as an example of the implementation of the Integrated Urban Development Concept, Smart City Leipzig exemplifies a continuous and comprehensive innovation process. This process includes digital transformation as well as non-technical, socially-oriented goals.
As one of the three major urban areas in Saxony, Leipzig focuses its Integrated Urban Development Concept on the wider objectives of regional planning, such as the Saxony Development Plan and the Regional Plan for West Saxony. Since growth and development processes do not end at the city's borders but are regionally connected, existing regional partnerships should be developed and expanded further.
