Applying for emergency assistance with housing and emergency accommodation
General information
Homelessness and exclusion from housing are imminent, when the monthly rent is not paid regularly or in full. Financial assistance can be granted on a single occasion to deprived persons in individual cases for the prevention of an imminent eviction.
If an eviction could not be prevented, then emergency temporary accommodation will be necessary. For the short-term accommodation of homeless persons there are currently both collective living quarters (emergency accommodation for unmarried men and women) and so-called "guaranteed apartments" in Leipzig.
Counselling and personal assistance to overcome difficulties associated with acute cases of exclusion from housing are provided by social workers of the social services for emergency assistance with housing. Furthermore, applications for external-care-based assisted living according to §§ 67-69 SGB XII are also approved there and social assistance measures taken for external-care-based assisted living for the socially-disadvantaged.
In addition to the Leipzig district council, various associations and organisations have been assisting the homeless for many years. Voluntary welfare organisations have been providing among other things services for external-care-based assisted living, maintaining day centres for the homeless and the socially-disadvantaged and running the overnight emergency accommodation house for homeless women that is commissioned by the Leipzig district council.
Winter program 2014/2015: emergency accommodation for the homeless
Over the coming cold weather period a sufficient number of beds will be made available in Leipzig to accommodate the homeless. Various centres will provide a total of 84 spaces for unmarried men and women. The number of spaces available can be increased at short notice if necessary.
Homeless families are usually accommodated temporarily in so-called "guaranteed apartments". All homeless people are entitled to emergency accommodation and basic needs.
The winter program this season is from 15th November 2014 until 31st March 2015.
