Seal of European cultural heritage presented at St Nicholas' Church
On the 12th of March 2012 three Leipzig locations were honoured as part of Europe's "Iron curtain" cultural heritage in the form of St Nicholas' Church, Leipzig's Ring Road and the Museum in the ‘Round Corner’, the former Stasi headquarters. The European cultural heritage seals were unveiled by Sabine von Schorlemer, Saxony's Minister of State for Arts and Sciences, and Leipzig's Mayor Burkhard Jung.
The "Iron curtain" network unites 12 locations which played a central role in the formation, history and dismantling of the wall and the accompanying barbed wire. Leipzig is the only one of the selected locations which does not lie on the former border between East and West Germany.
