Registration of Deaths
The Leipzig Registry Office is exclusively authorised to register deaths in Leipzig.
Notification of deaths
Deaths may be reported by the undertaker during office hours and on Fridays between 9:00 hours and 12:00 hours. The Registry Office must be notified of a death by no later than the third working day after the death has occurred (note that Saturday does not count as a working day.)
The undertaker whom you have commissioned to carry out the interment notifies the Registry Office of the death and, on completion of registration, issues you with the death certificates ordered. This means that you do not have to worry about obtaining death certificates yourself.
Death certificates
We issue death certificates after a death has occurred. To be eligible, the death must have taken place in Leipzig.
The Leipzig Registry Office is also authorised to issue death certificates for all deaths which have occurred during the last 30 years.
Documentation on older deaths is filed in the Municipal Archive.

Fee
The fee for issuing a death certificate is EUR 10.00. Each additional death certificate costs EUR 5.00.
