Municipal libraries in Leipzig
The municipal libraries in Leipzig together with the public library and 15 city district libraries as well as the mobile library provide complete media coverage. Extensive special collections can also be accessed from the music library and the administrative library.
The German National Library (DNB)
The German National Library (DNB) pursues the goal of collecting, permanently archiving and bibliographically recording all German and German-language publications written from 1913 onwards, as well as making foreign publications about Germany, translations of German works and the works of German-speaking emigrants published abroad between 1933 and 1945 available to the public.
The University Library of Leipzig
The University Library of Leipzig that was founded in 1543 is renowned to be the second oldest in Germany. It comprises of the "Bibliotheca Albertina" as well as 15 other libraries that are situated very close to the scientific institutions of the University of Leipzig. It boasts a collection that currently covers over 5.5 million volumes and circa 6500 current journals/periodicals.
The German Central Library for the Blind (DZB)
The German Central Library for the Blind in Leipzig (DZB) provides blind or visually-impaired people with a wealth of information and literature. Braille and audio books, journals/periodicals, reliefs, sheet music etc. are produced and available for purchase or for loan from the DZB.
Ladies library MONAliesA
In the early 1990s the ladies library MONAliesA was founded as a ladies project with the goal of promoting education, art and culture for women and young ladies.
The Environmental Library of Leipzig
The Environmental Library of Leipzig (set up in 1988) is now one of the largest public environmental libraries in Germany. It lends specialist media on the environment, as well as providing access to electronic information and arranging environmental consulting as well as environmental education.
The Central Library of Geography
The Central Library of Geography is one of the largest specialist geographic libraries in Germany. It mainly covers literature on human geography as well as books and journals on physical geography, spatial planning, regional history and cartography.
Rosa Archiv
Rosa Archiv in Leipzig collects, archives and lends publications covering topics on sexuality, in particular homosexuality and sexual otherness, as well as HIV and AIDS.
