St. Nicholas Church (Nikolaikirche)

In 1165, after Leipzig was granted a city charter and market rights, the St. Nicholas church was erected. In 2015, the church will celebrate its 850th anniversary.
The church became renowned throughout Germany for its Prayers for Peace, which have been held there uninterrupted on every Monday since 1982.
St. Nicholas Church is the largest church in Leipzig; it is 63 metres (207 ft.) long and 43 metres (141 ft.) wide.
